Collected by traps at 350 meters depth by local boat

Scaphella matchetti is one of the rarest volute shells in the world. Described scientifically only in 2011 by Petuch & Sargent, this stunning shell is found exclusively in the deep waters of the Gulf of Darién, Colombia, at depths of around 350 meters. It can only be obtained accidentally through artisanal fishing traps operated by local boats, making each specimen a truly exceptional find. With very few known examples in collections worldwide, owning a Scaphella matchetti represents the pinnacle of shell collecting.
